The attack was in retaliation for the girl's alleged involvement in the robbery and murder of a local taxi driver. Unidentified Rio Bravo residents claimed she and two other men killed Carlos Enrique González Noriega, 68, moto taxi driver.

The two male accomplices escaped. It is unknown whether she was involved or simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Guatemala has a major problem with violent crime. Many powerful drug and human trafficking cartels operate in the nation, due to its central position between South and North America.
